Highlight – DELSU Tech Invasion 2.0
Day 1 of the 2nd edition of Delsu Tech Invasion 2.0 organized by Hamplus Technologies International(Hamplus Hub) started on the 4th of December, 2024, with students being present in the hall from 11am. Registration started at exactly 11:30am with a total of 300 students registered while the main event kick started at 12:00pm on the dot.
The director of ICT, Prof. Godfrey E. Akpojotor delivered a keynote address on the topic, “Python for Academics”. He did justice to the topic by making the attendees which were mainly students realize the importance and need for Python. Immediately after Prof’s address, freebies of the event started with 2 attendees being gifted a laptop each (Dell Latitude 5400 chromebook) while the 3rd beneficiary is to receive his laptop by January, 2025. A total of 3 attendees benefited from receiving free laptops. They are: Abedi Christopher, Kingsley Esisi and Oghoepha Precious Ewomazino (a data analyst).
The seminar section began with Mr Micheal Oghenerukevwe Edward , a full stack developer and freelancer. He spoke on the topic, “Developing Lite Web Apps using Flask and Python”. He started by sharing his tech journey and further explained the concept of web app and its inter-relation with Python. The 2nd speaker for the seminar section, Naomi Apomejevwe Egbe, a web3 content creator and blockchain advocate. She spoke on the topic, “Why Learn, Innovate and Earn”. She also shared her tech journey on how she was a content creator and copywriter and how she transitioned to web3. She further enlightened the attendees on the need to innovate and the limitless opportunities in tech. She also advised the attendees on learning courses that compliment each other. The 2nd phase of the freebies was gifting of Polos’ to attendees. A scholarship was given to Miss Oghenevwede Faith to study any tech course of her choice in Hamplus Hub, based on recommendation from Prof. Godfrey E. Akpojotor.
The 3rd speaker for the seminar section, Raymond Charles, a UI/UX designer and web3 enthusiast. He spoke on the topic, “Designing the Future”. He started by explaining the concept of UI/UX design and how one cannot do without the other. He further educated the attendees on UI design and UX design and how UI/UX can be a gateway to a career in tech. The 4th speaker, Azubuike Uche Nathan, a Software Developer(desktop applications), spoke on the topic, “Using Python to Develop Desktop Applications”. He explained the concept of desktop applications and the use of Python in developing them. He briefly educated the attendees further on Graphics User Interface(GUI) and the need for creating designs to solve problems. The 5th speaker, Mr Ekeremo Dobra, spoke on the topic, “Contech Creation”. He educated the attendees on the importance of using con-tech creation to re-present themselves as techies.
Mr Jeremiah Omonefe, founder Falconlite Inc. thrilled the attendees to the 3rd phase of the freebies by gifting 10,000 naira each to attendees that registered for the program and also registered on his platform. A total of 7 attendees participated and benefited from this phase. He also spoke on the topic, “My Experience as a Startup Founder” where he shared his experience as a startup founder. Mr Peter Udo Chukwuka, a data scientist and web developer. He spoke on the topic, “Using Django to Develop Web Apps”. He distinguished between web apps and websites. He further educated the attendees briefly on programming and programming languages. Then, he explained Django as a toolkit for building websites and also as a framework of Python. Mr Amos, a product manager, educated the attendees on the role of a product manager as a techie, encouraging those who are scared of joining the tech space due to coding. He also highlighted the limitless opportunities involved in being a product manager.
Light refreshments were served to attendees during the seminar. Izu Confidence (KCSCRAFT), a photographer, graphics designer and content creator, educated the attendees on how to shoot and edit content in less than 10 minutes. He also highlighted tips on being a good content creator using practical steps. He took the attendees further on the next phase of freebies by gifting 2GB data to the first 6 students that registered on his website – Unipaddy. Daniel Oghenetega, a front-end developer and graphics designer. He spoke on the topic, “Safeguarding on the Internet Without Causing Privacy Issues”. He defined the internet, cyber criminals and the need for online security. He further explained the importance of striking a balance between convenience, security and privacy. He also educated the attendees on the importance of using private browsers such as Firefox, VPN. He advised the attendees to minimize the way they share their personal data which can be used against them by data thieves and the need to review their online profile often.
The event was honoured by the presence of H.O.D of Computer Science, lecturers; Dr. Mr Abel and lecturers from namely, Dr. Mrs Omede, Dr. Mrs Akazue, Dr. Omede, Mr Ephriam and many others. 3 new groups were formed; PyClub DELSU, PyLadies DELSU and PyData DELSU. The last speaker for the day, Miss Elozino Onorie spoke on the topic, “Diversity Inclusion in Tech”. She encouraged the female folks on the need to join the tech ecosystem. She further encouraged ladies who are not in the department of computer science, not to be discouraged about joining the tech ecosystem as the ecosystem doesn’t require having a degree in computer science. The event ended with gifting of tote bags to attendees who posted a selfie on their social media platforms with the hashtag #hamplushub. Many attendees benefitted from this freebie. Free lunch was served to all attendees.
