SIWES (I.T.) Defense and Project Exhibition By 2024 Batch B Students

The Batch B Industrial Training (IT) students at Hamplus Technologies International [Hamplus Hub] recently held (on 7th October, 2024) an exciting Project Exhibition showcasing their creative programming skills. The first batch of this exercise was held on the 9th of September, 2024 (see details here). This exhibition marked the culmination of months of hard work and learning under the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), designed to give students practical experience and enhance their technical expertise.

The event featured three talented students—two males and one female—each demonstrating their proficiency using Scratch, a visual programming language designed to introduce beginners to coding concepts. The audience included fellow students, Hamplus Hub staff, and two judges tasked with evaluating the projects.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROJECT

Each student was given twenty (20) minutes to present their project to the audience and the judges. During this time, they walked the audience through the concepts behind their projects, demonstrated their programs in action, and shared insights into the process they followed to build them. Their work was displayed on a large screen in the exhibition room, giving everyone a clear view of their achievements.

The presenters for the day consisted of two students from the department of Fine and Applied Art named Miss Victory and Mr Wisdom respectively, and a student from Computer Science department, all from Delta State University, Abraka. The students from Fine and Applied Art presented on Scratch and Branding; however, Mr Wisdom went ahead and made a presentation on UI/UX. Mr Wisdom from the Computer Science department, made a presentation on a drive booking brand that the branding was done by Miss Vera who did her presentation with the first batch of students.

The presentations were diverse, reflecting the unique perspectives and creativity of each student. Though all three students showcased impressive skills in Scratch, there were notable differences in the clarity and effectiveness of their presentations. The two male students stood out for their ability to clearly communicate the ideas behind their programs, taking extra care to explain each step and answer questions in a concise and confident manner. The female student, though equally skilled in her programming, found it slightly more challenging to articulate her thoughts under the pressure of the judges’ scrutiny.

INTERACTIVE QUESTION SESSION

After each presentation, the judges posed several questions to the students, testing their understanding of both the technical aspects and the practical application of their projects. These questions allowed the students to further demonstrate their knowledge, as they explained the rationale behind their design choices, the challenges they faced, and how they overcame obstacles during development.

Though all students were able to defend their work and respond to the judges’ questions, the two male students excelled in handling the pressure. They responded with poise and clarity, which left a lasting impression on the judges and the audience.

RECOGNITION AND AWARDS

At the end of the exhibition, Hamplus Hub recognized the efforts of the two male students, presenting them with gifts as a token of appreciation for their outstanding performances. Their achievements were celebrated with photographs that will be posted on the hub’s website, showcasing their success and inspiring future batches of I.T students.

This project exhibition not only served as a platform for the students to display their technical skills but also highlighted the importance of communication in tech-related fields. Hamplus Hub continues to prioritize hands-on learning experiences like these to prepare students for the demands of the tech industry.
